In the fast forward of Googoosh's journey, she would grow into a pop idol who, in retrospect, has been likened to the Iranian version of Shirley Temple, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Edith Piaf and Madonna. All of that crazy life stopped in 1979, though, when the country's religious, revolutionary leaders forced her and all other women to stop singing and to live under veils. Googoosh's public outings were reduced for 20 years to little more than shopping for fruit at supermarkets. So fans and major media reacted with positive alarm when Iran decided to let her return to touring the world this year. Since then, fans have traveled continents to see her sold out shows. Now that Googoosh has been allowed to return to the stage this year, she has begun acting and singing again. She has been touring with a 16 piece orchestra, singing in her Iranian language of Farsi. She sings old songs about living a fun life, plus new songs from a new CD, Zoroaster, that chronicle the leading of a mature life of exile in a nation that has had a see saw affair with Western pop culture. Artist: Googoosh
